Dadaji always wore clothes made with khadi, probably since the early 1930’s soon after joining Gandhiji’s freedom movement. There were exceptions. There are photos of him wearing a suit during a conference in Europe and wearing woollen clothes in cold locations.
I personally possess a khadi “Gandhi topi” (cap) worn by Dadaji. While in freedom fighting days, wearing khadi certainly had a symbolic, economic and political purpose, after independence its function I suppose diminished other than as a matter of taste.
